A cochlear implant is a small, complex electronic device that can help to provide a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard-of-hearing. The implant consists of an external portion that sits behind the ear and a second portion that is surgically placed under the skin (see figure). An implant has the following parts:
* A microphone, which picks up sound from the environment.
* A speech processor, which selects and arranges sounds picked up by the microphone.
* A transmitter and receiver/stimulator, which receive signals from the speech processor and convert them into electric impulses.
* An electrode array, which is a group of electrodes that collects the impulses from the stimulator and sends them to different regions of the auditory nerve.
An implant does not restore normal hearing. Instead, it can give a deaf person a useful representation of sounds in the environment and help him or her to understand speech.
Now..this is an Interview summary that i did this morning on the case:
**noted..i wrote this today, after getting some good sleep..i had a dawning realization as to something that hit me as wrong yesterday and nagged the hell out of me..obviously i have protected names..but found it very enlightning.
July 29th 2008:
Case : SH-001
Noted thought after I went over the limited conversation I had with ***** last night, and things I wished to add:
1: the house was built in 2006, it is standard new construction on a sloped decline then a slight incline on the property slat.. Also noted, the house has not yet settled, there is no evidence of settling cracks as of yet, given the position of this house and the history of sinkholes local to this location, it is assumed that there is some underground movement and displacement especially given the recent heavy rains which have plagued the area. With this noted we progress to point 2
2: while having a conversation in the kitchen with the client, I was going over my conversation with her in regards to her daughter's imaginary friend Priscilla, and speaking of how I found that to be an unusual name given the age of her child, and the antiquity of the name. As I was speaking, I turned my head to look down at my notes. ***** asked me to re-direct my head to face her because she had slight hearing problems. I didn't think about it until this morning. But I noted that all night there was something about *****'s voice that bothered me, although I knew she was on pain meds for her recent hospital stay..there was an inflection in her voice which was eerily familiar, but I could not quiet put my finger on it. This morning, while reading my case notes, I realized that with *****'s request in the kitchen,..she needed to see my face so she could read my lips. This led me to the conclusion of WHY *****'s voice sounded different…she has at minimal partial deafness…most likely she is aided with a hearing implant. I will confirm this with the client this week in a phone conversation, but instinctively, I know I am correct. If this is indeed the case, it may explain some of the "voices" she hears at odd times..given the fact that she is living in a veritable fear cage, a hearing device would certainly be affected by high range emissions of EMF for prolonged time periods. It would explain her noticing spikes in activity when she is gone from the house for a length of time, as she re-enters, her hearing device would have to re-adapt to the stronger flow of EMF. It would take several days for the affects of this to slow down or become adaptable. Also, It was noted that she charges her laptop next to her bed. Much of the noise ***** experiences are in the bedroom at night. If indeed she has a hearing device, the power involved with charging the laptop could also affect her in a negative manner. Now, with this being said, this does not debunk what occurred while we were there interviewing, but it may allow for some of the strange noise anomalies that the client experiences.

Was wondering if anyone else has done any work in this area, or could offer up more info to me.. it kinda rattled me when i realised how much this could actually swing both ways when it comes to the client's perception of what is occurring in her home. I completely believe that due to the theory that what we pursue is indeed a frequency or energy, those with the above implants or even hearing aids..would be not only affected by EMF's but also anything that might accompany EMF readings..feel feel to respond here...would not be asking if i did not wish feedback.
