Thought I'd share with you about my week and why I am thankful this year and remind you to remember not to drink & drive this holiday season.
The Sunday before last I got the dreaded phone call from the ER at 6:00 in the morning. My 20 yr. old son Tyler had been involved in an auto accident.
My husband and I went to the hospital, he was coming home from a party drinking and driving and lost control of his truck on a turn. He plowed 300 ft hit a tree, rolled his truck and came to a stop in someone's front yard. His hand was pinned in the truck, so they had to cut the roof off to get him out.
They weren't sure about the damage when we got there, he was conscience and waiting to be taken to have a ct scan. The police were there and took his blood alcohol which we won't know the results of for probably another month or maybe two. We do know from the Dr. it was probably about 3 times the lawful limit.
Long story short, he walked out of the hospital at 11 am with only a small amount of nerve damage in his hand that he should recover from.
He THOUGHT he was fine to drive. He had stopped drinking 2 hours before and ate and drank water before leaving at 3:am.
Needless to say we are very fortunate to have him here with us and we are so thankful he didn't kill or injure anyone else.
If you saw his truck, you would think the person in it would be dead. No seat belt, and no airbag deployment.
He doesn't live at home, he moved out about 4 months ago, he and his room mates have always been very careful to designate a driver or just stay where they are. He made a really bad decision and is likely to pay with his driver license.
THEN Monday the next day, my 16 yr. old daughter was driving home from school and totaled her car a couple miles from the house. She is fine, had her seat belt on , both airbags deployed (hence why the car is totaled )
It's been a rough week for us. We had decided not to put the christmas lights up outside the house there,,usually looks like a carnival around here, but with everything that has happened, I decided that today I would put out as many as I could.
Which brings me to the point that I HATE UPACKING CHRISTMAS LIGHTS!!!! I have no where to go today so after untangling and checking about a thousand bulbs,,,,,I'm now having egg nog and brandy and waiting for back up because I don't want to be alone on the ladder. We have so much to be thankful for.
So, just thought I'd share. Be careful out there, if not yourself, watch out for the other drunks.
